Bible Verse
Proverbs 15:1
“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up
anger.”
Devotional
Words are powerful. The way we speak to others can bring
peace or create conflict. Proverbs 15:1 teaches us a simple yet profound truth:
“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”
In moments of disagreement or tension, our natural reaction
may be to respond quickly with frustration or anger. When we feel hurt or
misunderstood, harsh words can easily come out. However, God calls us to
respond with gentleness and wisdom.
A gentle spirit reflects humility, patience, and
self-control. When we choose to answer calmly and kindly, we can calm
situations that might otherwise grow into arguments. Gentle words have the
power to soften hearts and restore relationships.
Jesus Himself showed us the example of gentleness. Even when
He was misunderstood, criticized, or treated unfairly, He responded with
patience and grace. As followers of Christ, we are called to reflect that same
spirit in our daily lives.
Responding gently does not mean we ignore the truth.
Instead, it means we communicate truth with love and respect. When our hearts
are guided by God’s Spirit, our words become tools that bring peace rather than
division.
Today, ask God to help you develop a gentle spirit. Let your
words bring encouragement, understanding, and peace to those around you.
Prayer
Lord, Help me to guard my words and speak with gentleness and
wisdom. When I feel angry or frustrated, remind me to respond with patience and
kindness. Fill my heart with Your peace so that my words can bring
encouragement and healing to others. Teach me to reflect Your love in the way I
speak. In Jesus name, Amen.
